CSA study: 10th annual investigation into franchise

CSA, the study and consultancy institute, published results of its 10th annual investigation into franchises for the French Federation of Franchises and Popular Banks. According to this study, the number of franchise networks has almost doubled (+98%) and the number of retail outlets increased by 77% between 2004 and 2013. Moreover, since 2009, around 8 franchisees in 10 states that they could withstand the financial crisis better than a single trader.
However, it was possible to note a reduction in accumulated turnover of franchisees in 2013: a little over half of them generated less than 10 million euros (+7 points compared to 2012). It should be indicated that over 7 in 10 franchisees are networks less than 6 years old. In parallel, 4 in 10 franchisees declare turnover which was up in 2013 (-7 points compared to 2012).
The franchiser confidence index is at a high level: 93% of them are confident as to the future of their network. Franchises also create jobs (+25,000 per annum) despite a fall in the average number of annual jobs created per franchise: 1.2 in 2013 compared with 1.7 in 2012.
