Property sales down in 2013

After an already declining 2012, French notaries are forecasting a drop from former sales in 2013. The volume may not exceed 550,000 properties, which is 20% below the high of 2012.
According to the estimates of the General Council for the environment and sustainable development (CGEDD), the national fall reached 12% in 2012 with a marked decline of 20% during the third quarter. Concerning prices, the decline is greater for houses than flats, notably in the regions, while slightly rose in Ile-de-France. In the new property sector, sales also dropped during of the third quarter of 2012 by 25% with, however, prises rising for the year by 1.2%.
The economic note for 2013 by French notaries does not take into account the fourth quarter of 2012, linked to the three-month gap in the sales process. However, their mitigated analysis rests on unfavourable economic projections, a waiting-game by buyers and the lack of State aid.
