National Council of Bar Associations Action Lines for 2013

On 22 January 2013, the Chair of the National Council of Bar Associations (CNB), Christian Charrière-Bournazel, presented the traditional greetings of the profession to the press. In addition to the warning expressed by the CNB during parliamentary debate on same-sex marriage, the Chair Christian Charrière-Bournazel returned to the 35 euros tax also discussed the 35 euro tax to contribute to legal aid: "a tax which penalises people subject to the law". The press conference was also an opportunity to look back on the various actions undertaken by the CNB: awaiting a response from the chancellery as to the proposed reform relating the "Protection of Professional Secrecy and of Confidentiality of Exchanges", improvement of certain methods during police custody (underlining also the positive effects of this reform), just as the position and proposal of the CNB on the treatment of abuse of process. Finally, having been active since 2011 for replacement of the current CNB by a National Order with the election of its Chair by direct universal vote, the institution hopes to have a vote before the end of the year. This beginning to 2013 by the Chair of the CNB recalls the missions of this body: to organise the actions of attorneys towards freedoms.
